When the world is feeling loud … how can you get some quiet?

Embracing your time alone is good for the mind, soul and heart. Solitude is a great way to recharge your internal batteries. The world can often be busy and chaotic, we can be running from one place to another and not really taking concentrated time to be quiet; to just sit and breathe.

Research has shown that quiet-time relieves stress, tension and helps to boost a person’s mental state. Too much time alone can have an opposite effect, however, on a day-to-day basis when life is full of schedules, deadlines, places to be, things to do, it’s very important to find time to be and relish in quiet.

As a parent, I understand the limited ‘quiet time’ available, however, I have to ensure I do have quiet time, whether this is just 5-10 minutes before bed, or before the craziness starts on a morning, but I know it makes me a better parent. I know it gives me time to focus, re-adjust and feel gratitude.

Researchers have said that meditation is so important, however, many people find it hard to connect with their inner selves. There are many meditation downloads you can choose from that will help you find your inner peace, however, if you prefer to be a bit more active here are 5 ways to enjoy some quiet time and switch off from your hectic world:

1. Bath with candles – either quietly or listening to some soft music

I love baths. A hot soak with bubbles, candles and some soft music can be just the thing to soothe the soul. Being mum, it isn’t always possible to have a bath without the interruptions of children. If you have children who go to bed and sleep, that’s awesome, ‘us mums’ who didn’t succeed in that department praise you. However, those who have children who don’t sleep, need to find their quiet time, dare I say, probably even more so …

I’ve known myself to get in the bath at 1.am and onwards … just to feel the soak of the water and relax from a hectic day. I find water relaxing, although, I’m not a lover of swimming I still like to chill in the pool, and my family does like to swim, so we got the best variable speed pool pump to keep our pool clean. I love stepping into the heat of the bath and just knowing that calmness surrounds me. I can’t use my laptop in the bath, I can’t run errands, I can’t be sorting the house out. It stops you from doing the tasks that can feel mundane and can relax your mind so that you can recharge and feel in control again.

2. Go walking

Credit: Image by pixel2013 on Pixabay

By going out walking, we all know it’s a great way to keep fit and healthy, but this is a great way to also find your quiet.

I reiterate this throughout my blog posts, walking in the fresh air is a natural and free way to lift your mood. Research has shown that exposing ourselves to fresh air can relieve stress and anxiety. It can affect the serotonin levels released in our bodies, which then leads to feeling happy and relaxed.

Researchers at New Mexico Highlands University (NMHU) found that the foot’s impact during walking sends pressure waves through the arteries that significantly modify and can increase the supply of blood to the brain. (See science daily)

So whether you walk in silence, or with your headphones on, you will feel immensely better after. You can listen to music or, like myself, listen to an audiobook (I use audible, I absolutely love it, a fab product if you love listening to stories).

3. Read

This is another of my favourites. I love reading all kinds of books, from losing myself in someone else’s fictional drama, learning more about the world of spirituality to being inspired by others who have achieved their goals. Whatever your hobbies and interest, you will find a book that will grab your attention.

4. Jigsaw Puzzles

There have been several studies to show that jigsaws are great for improving both mindfulness and brain activity. You can see more about this on Memory Jogging Puzzles.

Jigsaws have been around for centuries, so it’s not something new, but it may be something that someone hasn’t thought to partake in. Especially in the hustle and bustle of adulthood, the last thing we may consider doing is sitting down to put together a jigsaw.

We all know the world is now full of technology; phones, i-pads, tablets etc. but that isn’t finding our quiet time. Set-up a place in your house; kitchen, bedroom, office etc. where you know you can sit down, focus on a jigsaw and relish in some quiet time.

5. Colour Therapy

Colouring has always been popular for children, but when the colouring books came out for adults, I was in my element. I would colour with my girls when they were younger and found it so relaxing. Therefore having our own designs that are created especially for relaxation, I believe, is just one of the best ideas ever.

Natural Health Courses Website say … colour is just light of varying wavelengths and frequencies. Electromagnetic waves constantly surround us, and colour is part of those waves. Every single cell in the body needs light energy. Our cells absorb colour, and this affects us on every level, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

As above, when doing a jigsaw, find a quiet place to sit, chill and colour.

10 Ways To Nourish Your Mind

Are you nourishing your mind?

In my last blog post on N is for Nourish, I talked about the importance of nourishing the mind. So this week, I thought I’d talk about ways in which you CAN nourish your mind.

When your mind is nourished, your body and soul will follow. Having a healthy mind is the first steps to having a healthy body & soul. Looking after your mind’s wellbeing is the key to living a happy life.

So here are some ways you can give your mind some TLC:

1.GO FOR A WALK

This is one of my favourites. Getting some fresh air is a great way to feel refreshed because it provides energy and the oxygen intake allows us to feel better. So a twenty-minute walk a day can really help to fight negative emotions, feelings and thoughts.

2. READ / LISTEN TO AUDIO BOOKS

Being a writer, I’m an avid reading. As much as I love fiction, I also love spiritual, inspirational and motivational books. Books that really help me grow and connect with my inner-self & guides. So if I am walking, I will stick on my headphones and listen to books about angels, past-lives, soul-development, living with passion etc. Being certified in the Law of Attraction, I practice mindfulness daily. It truly is important to keep our thoughts positive. When our minds are fresh and in a good place, as the Law of Attraction tells us, we’ll attract good things to us.

3. READ POSITIVE MESSAGES/QUOTES & AFFIRMATIONS

You will find endless positivity on my blog and my shop. When times were at their worst; I was pregnant with our second child, living at my in-laws (because my ex-husband’s business had taken a downward slope practically overnight), we had no idea when we would be able to afford to move out … it was all a bit of a mess! My own family weren’t around to support and it was a very hard time. However, it was at this point in my life when I started to collect inspirational quotes. I would write them down onto a spreadsheet and I couldn’t believe how much it helped.

I realised I had so much to be grateful for. I was pregnant with our 2nd child, how could I not be relishing in this love. We were so lucky that we didn’t need treatment, that I fell pregnant so easily (trust me, if anyone knows anything about depression and sex-drive, you’ll get that we were VERY lucky to fall pregnant so easily!). I was extremely grateful for that. We had a roof over our heads and my in-laws were so lovely, they really looked after us.

So once, I started to look at life from a gratitude point of view, my world changed. It wasn’t long before my husband got a business opportunity and we moved into a 2-bedroomed house, which we rented, but I was so grateful that we had the opportunity to move our life forward & not look at the negative. Since then, I read positive quotes & affirmations daily & I create my own. Hence the reason I set-up my online shop, as I feel it is important to surround yourself with reminders that you do have so much love to give and so much to be grateful for. You can also download my free inspirational messages book, which will show you how to make your own inspirational box.

4. WRITE DOWN POSITIVE MESSAGES/QUOTES & AFFIRMATIONS

As above, it’s just as important to write down quotes & affirmations. I think this really helped me. Just putting them into a spreadsheet. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them, but it truly helped. I did eventually make them into ‘annual quote a day’ books, and the process truly helped. It still does now. I’m a true believer this really works. In fact, my own quote is:

‘Positive messages throughout the day help to keep the negative thoughts away.’

You don’t need to use a spreadsheet, you can use a notebook or something that will inspire you. Buy a blackboard or a noticeboard and write down an affirmation/quote for the day. This will help the whole family come from a place of love and believe in themselves. Perfect for inspiring children. Just like the downloadable inspirational quotes will help to lift our children so that they become well-rounded adults who believe in themselves.

5. THERAPEUTIC WRITING

Now, this is my thing! Being an author, of course, I love writing and I love writing my inspirational blog, so I’m bound to say writing helps. But it’s actually a renowned form of therapy. It’s a great way to explore your emotions. The best way is to simply write, without thinking about WHAT you are writing. Just write. It’s like allowing your mind to be released of any pent-up frustrations. The best of it is, with therapeutic writing, you don’t need to be the best writer, best speller or know your grammar, because that’s not what it is about. It’s about writing for you and releasing toxic thoughts.

You will find writing prompts in my A-Z positive word blog.

Just pick a letter you’d like to work on, read the quotes and have a go at the exercise.

I found it also helps, that once my thoughts have been released, is to then think about what I want from a situation, so I write a ‘fantasy page’, I put out my desires to the universe but on paper, as if I’ve already received them, as if my desires have already happened and how that makes me feel. The thing with the Law of Attraction is, people struggle with imagination, so by writing down how something would make you feel, it’s easier to imagine it. It’s not only a great way to release, but it’s a great way to bring joy into your life. Experts at League City Integrative Counseling and Wellness will offer you guidance and expert advice.

6. LISTEN TO MUSIC / MEDITATE

When many people hear the word meditation, they believe that they can’t meditate, because they can’t sit still for five minutes and think of nothing. Admittedly, I found this a struggle at first, but after trying guided meditations I soon learned how to meditate alone. However, I found that music can be a huge avenue to relaxation, I found this out when I went to a Gabrielle Bernstein seminar. She played, ‘Titanium’ by Madilyn Bailey, she asked us all to stand up, close our eyes, put our hands in the air and feel the music … even as I write this I get shivers.

The feeling of joy and calmness filled my body. Since then, I truly listen to the music. I truly listen to the words and feel the music. A great way to listen to music is when you are out walking or when you are in the car (obviously not to close your eyes, but to feel it) … my girls and I are always blasting music and singing at the top of our voices. They had a friend in the car just yesterday, we blasted some music, we sang, we got our groove on … her friend said, ‘I never want to leave this car.’ It’s amazing how much a good sing-song can release those endorphins … so choose some of your favourite songs and get blasting those vocal cords.

7. START A PROJECT OF LOVE

Do something you love. This could be a scrapbook of a holiday, party or significant life event. Put aside some time to create something. If you’re not a creative person, do something that makes you happy. A passion project that will have you excited.

8. DECLUTTER / MAKE SPACE

This is kind of a given in the world of feng-shui. Clutter and mess can cause disorganisation. Now, I always say I have an ‘organised mess’ because I know where everything is, however, I have to admit I do work better when I’m not surrounded by wildness (I don’t mean nature, although, often feels like I’m sat in the middle of a zoo). There’s a wonderful feeling when you clear out the clutter that is causing your mind to feel like a chaotic roundabout. So book a day in your diary and clear out those cupboards … you may have things you can give to charity or for a car boot sale, whichever, you will feel such a calming release once you are decluttered.

9. INDULGE IN A CROSSWORD/WORDSEARCH/SUDOKU/JIGSAW PUZZLE

This to some people may sound extremely boring, but trust me, these activities truly work. Find something that you’re interested in, even sitting down to a colour therapy book is a great way to switch off, because your mind is concentrating on the task at hand, so other worries can be pushed to the back of your mind.

10. LIMIT TECHNOLOGY TIME

In this day and age, this last one is like swearing at people. How on earth did we live without such technology? When I was a teenager, I remember sitting on the stairs to use the house phone and making sure my sister didn’t pick up the other phone to listen in on our conversation. How times have changed? Don’t get me wrong … I do love the way technology has moved on and things we can do today are amazing, it makes running a business much easier: I can sit in my car on the school run and work on my phone – however, there comes a point when it’s too much. One of the sayings we’ve used as a family is, ‘When in the room, be in the room!’ This means, engage with each other. Make time for each other. Listen to each other. Spend time without our heads in any kind of technological device.

Inspirational Monday – My Journey

Inspirational Monday

What an exciting couple of days!

It has made me realise that I’m on the right path …

If you read my blog, you’ll know I’m a huge lover of inspirational messages and following dreams while appreciating life, being grateful and sending love always. Positive thinking is really the only way to move life forward, even when those life challenges are testing us. I hope you find this post inspiring and it motivates you to NEVER GIVE UP!

Yesterday, my original chaos series was re-released by Bombshell Books

NEW COVER & A NEW NAME! And I think it looks pretty awesome!

In the process of Sarah Hardy, the fabulous publicist at Bloodhound/Bombshell Books organising my book blog tour, I was lucky enough to talk with the lovely Joanne Robertson about my journey to becoming a writer and how my dreams are now coming true.

In writing this post, it made me realise how far I’ve come and what I’ve actually been through. I’ve not gone into too much detail, as to be honest, my life is a novel in itself … but it made me realise that the journey may have been tough at times, but not giving up, continually pushing, hoping, praying and ultimately believing, has made my dreams of publication come true. I pleased I started my inspirational blog and company … I truly hope others are inspired to achieve their own goals.

You can see a part of my journey on Joanne’s lovely blog, My Chestnut Reading Tree

Thank you to all that have and are taking part in the blog tour, those who have interacted on social media, those who have purchased the book, those who have left reviews … I am feeling extremely blessed.

Inspirational Words: Become a younger version of YOU!

This week’s positive word

on our A-Z Inspirational Journey …

Y is for

YOUNG

In this blog I wanted to talk to you about how young you FEEL! Not how old you are? But how young do you feel?

You see, being young isn’t about age, it’s about how you feel. There are people who are in their twenties who live a very old life. There are people in their 50s 60s 70s and upwards who live an amazingly young life. Check out this video of a 96-year-old yoga instructor:

Ask yourself how old do you feel physically, mentally and emotionally?

Life can throw a lot of challenges at us. How you deal with these challenges or how you choose to see them in your life, can reflect how old you actually feel. Our challenges in life are relative to our lifestyle, for example, one thing that would give someone a nervous breakdown, may flow easily over someone else’s head.

Credit: Pintrest

The above is quite a depressing quote, not one that I would usually use for an inspirational blog. But I thought it was perfect for what I’m trying to say. People age because of what life throws at them. So it’s up to us to deal with the challenges and let little things go. Don’t dwell on stuff. Don’t let dwell on the small stuff … and don’t dwell on the big stuff … imagine everything is happening for a reason, look out for the signs and understand that if you let things go, you will age gracefully.

How old you feel is really a reflection on how you’ve viewed your actual life experiences, such as some people have been through so much and their way of dealing with things is to just to panic and feel stressed. While others could be going through the same but deal with it on a higher manageable level. Again, it’s all relative. If you think about the Law of Attraction, those who manage their thoughts to a positive outcome will endeavour to do so. Those who are stressing, will bring themselves more stress.

This is easier said than done, I realise this, hence the reason I write my blog, to inspire people to look at the bigger picture. To look at what you want even when it feels as if everything is against you. Look at the positive outcomes that can come from a bad situation, think about the reasons these things are happening and focus on good, the positive and don’t allow yourself to be swallowed up by the negativity. In cases where you find this hard it’s best to look at things you can be grateful for. Write a gratitude list. Even down to the fact you have clean running water keep you alive.

Imagine if you were to take these life experiences and learn from them, giving you the opportunity to feel young again.

Credit: Victoria J.Brown

There are a lot of factors that can make us older than we actually are. Not as young as we would like to. For example: perhaps you’ve had a stress in your life that has led to sleepless nights or you’ve gained bad habits that have led to a bad diet or maybe drinking too much alcohol as a way of coping. A coping mechanism that is actually aging you internally and externally. This is where your emotional age can add to your physical age and you don’t feel very young.

But we’re only here once, so let’s stop making excuses and start living young …

Here’s this week’s therapeutic creative writing exercise:

HOW TO FEEL YOUNG AGAIN

Sleep is a huge factor in making us feel older than we are. It’s proven that lack of sleep does affect your physical and mental age, you can read an article here from Healthy Sleep Texas.

So, do you feel you are not getting enough sleep? Do you find it hard to drop off to sleep? Do you wake in the middle of the night unable to get back to sleep? This is a great time to do some therapeutic writing. Well, actually it’s not an ideal time, earlier in the day is much better … but if you’re just getting started on this exercise and you’re unsure what is actually keeping you awake at night, it’s best to start this way for a few nights and then bring the writing earlier to the day to help wash away the thoughts before bedtime.

So to start with, if you feel you can’t sleep, start writing down what is keeping you awake. Whatever is going around in your head, write it down. Keep a notebook next to your bed and simply write until you feel you have released all your emotions.

The next morning, take a look at these notes, then try to bring this therapeutic writing to more a reasonable time of the day.

Writing a journal is an extremely relaxing way to de-stress. You can read here a great article from 2nd Story Counselling, that will give you 7 great tips on keeping a journal, which will hopefully help you sleep better.

So once you’ve started with some true self-reflection with your creative writing, you’ll start to see patterns of behaviour, emotions, feelings that could be dragging you down and making you feel older than you are.

If it helps write some sentences about how you would like to feel young and how you can help yourself feel young. What do you see when you see youth?

Here’s three tips to help you live a younger more vibrant life:

* Eat Healthy & Drink Plenty Of Water – This is a given. The healthier you eat the more energy you will have. Your skin will look fresher and revitalised. There is plenty of information out there to help you have a better diet.

* Exercise – This is another given. People who exercise feel younger, fitter and healthier, these tips really go without saying. Now maybe you’ve reached an age where you feel the aches and pains, it’s easier said than done to go for a 3-mile run, your back hurts, your knees hurt etc. One of the best exercises to help the aging process is yoga and pilates. If you haven’t viewed the video at the top, please do. Simple stretches can help you feel young again. Don’t give up on exercise altogether. Find something you can do and watch the magic happen to your body.

* Mindset – I believe this is the most important part in feeling young. This is the ultimate barrier to letting yourself feel old. Are you letting life drag you down? Are you letting stuff get on top of you? Mindset is a huge factor in helping to play a part in enabling you to feel young.

The mind is wonderful and powerful! More than most realise.

If you’re interested in finding out how you can change your mindset, you can read through my A-Z Inspirational Journey, each blog post has been designed to help you change your mindset from negative to positive. It takes work if you’re in a dark place, but it can be done. Please read back through the posts, take your time, each post has a therapeutic writing exercise and some tips on helping you become a more positive you. A younger you! This journey starts with Appreciation.

Wishing you love, happiness and fulfilment always

Victoria xx

Inspirational Words: How to welcome challenges into your life

This week’s positive word

on our A-Z Inspirational Journey …

W is for

WELCOME

Today I wanted to talk to you about welcoming challenges into your life … you may be thinking that doesn’t sound very positive! How on earth can challenges be positive?

Challenges are draining, exhausting, depressing … sound familiar?

Well, in this blog post I want you to think about challenges in a completely different light. I want you to imagine that the challenges you are facing are the pinnacle of what will make your life better.

Credit: Like Success

You may feel as if this is not possible, your challenges are far too big. But I’ll ask one question: Are you seriously ill? If you are, I send you all the love in the world and wish you a healthy future. I truly appreciate you reading my blog and I hope you find some inspiration from the posts. I’d also advise you go to the Hay House website, if you haven’t already and read ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ by Louise Hay, and you can also read Louise Hay Interview with The Telegraph here (the journalist is a little bit sceptical but you can’t knock Louise Hay for her vibrant, inspiring encouragement). I’m not saying Louise Hay will cure you, but she will help you look at life a little differently.

So if you’re not seriously ill but are facing challenges that are making you ill, such as financial pressure, work difficulties, relationship problems, there is way to look at these aspects of your life differently. You may feel I’ve lightened your issues by asking if you’re seriously ill – quite the opposite. I understand the sleepless nights, the physically feeling sick with worry, the head that aches because you feel as if it’s in a vice … yes, hands-up, I’ve been there. I’ve been at a point where my problems have made me ill.

But since learning about the Law of Attraction and positive thinking I’ve realised that sweating the small, or big stuff, can actually make things a whole lot worse. It’s best to let it all go and welcome any disruptions, challenges or changes head on. Imagine they are there for a reason.

Credit: Quote Master

Now, that’s not me saying ignore the problems in your life, bury them under your skin, don’t let them affect you, that will never work because then they become deep rooted issues, issues that take over your world unconsciously, which is worse than addressing them and thinking about them consciously. Now don’t get me wrong, I still face challenges … I bet Louise Hay, and her team, still have a challenge or two, however, it’s how we deal with these challenges that makes the difference to our lives.

Credit: Sendable Quotes

Imagine if you were to welcome and embrace any challenge into your life, imagine you were going to learn something from the challenge. Welcome the change it will bring to you.

In this week’s therapeutic writing exercise, let’s look at:

HOW YOU CAN WELCOME CHALLENGES INTO YOUR LIFE

1/ WRITE DOWN YOUR CHALLENGES: Write down what challenges you are facing at the moment, this could be a list of more than one challenge, an individual sentence will be sufficient at this stage.

2/ TAKE ONE CHALLENGE APART: Sometimes we are so overwhelmed with a particular challenge that we can’t face welcoming it, because we don’t know where it starts or ends. So break it down. Take one of your challenges, maybe at this stage one of the challenges that you feel may be easily fixed, as this will encourage you to move onto more challenging challenges. Bullet point the parts that are upsetting you, making you angry or making you feel helpless.

3/ ACKNOWLEDGE THOSE FEELINGS: Why am I asking you to acknowledge these feelings? Because these are the feelings that are holding you back. You can’t move on and face these challenges while you keep all this anger, worthlessness or whatever it is you’re feeling, pent-up inside of you. You must welcome those feelings. Those feelings are there for a reason, so they must be welcomed so you can help solve the challenges.

So acknowledge that you are angry because … or you are hurt because …

Write these feelings down. Scribble away at this stage to your heart’s content. Imagine you are John Coffey from the Green Mile, releasing all those awful bugs and letting go of the nastiness. Dramatic? But whatever helps you understand you are a wonderful being and that all this ‘stuff’ isn’t you, then imagine releasing the toxins in the best way you see fit. Imagine as your pen scrawls across the paper you are releasing the toxins: the bugs.

4/ WHAT CAN YOU LEARN?

Now, let’s look at what you can learn from the challenges. Imagine these challenges are happening for a reason, they are part of your life lessons. Ask yourself questions to help prompt some answers, such as:

  • Should you be more grateful?
  • Are you focusing on too many negatives?
  • Are you looking at all opportunities available to you?
  • What can YOU DO to make your days better?
  • Are you in the wrong job?
  • What job would you like to do?
  • Do you need to make more effort in your relationship or do you need to move on?

I understand these are basic questions that may feel like I’m making light of certain challenges, but these basic questions can lead to your wants; they can help you focus on the solution rather than the problem. Too many people focus on the negative rather than the positive (you can read the positive thoughts post here) which can lead to them thinking their challenges are bigger than they are. Again, that’s not me dismissing what you’re feeling, as our emotions make us heightened to what is actually bothering us. However, let’s take these challenges and ask yourself, ‘What welcomed learning can I take from this?’ What have you learnt, or can you learn, from the challenges you are facing? What can you welcome into your life from these challenges?

5/ MEDITATE: Okay, you may be thinking, how can I meditate now you’ve just let me overload about how upset I am? And what I can learn from things … I’ve now too much to think about … if these are your thoughts … STOP!

At this stage breathe. Breathe deeply and close your eyes. If you haven’t mastered the art of meditation, this is the time in your life to start. Meditation will help you release all that pent-up overload that is fogging your brain. Meditation will help you release negativity and fill you with positivity. It helps to unload all that blackness that could actually be creating the challenges that don’t need to be there. You must welcome calmness into your life to enable you to learn anything from your challenges.

6/ TURN YOUR LEARNING INTO AFFIRMATIONS: If you’ve read my blog posts you’ll know that I’m a lover of affirmations. I surround myself with positivity. My office walls are full of inspiring messages. I awake to affirmations by my bedside. I have affirmations at my desk. I have affirmations everywhere. I must mention, Louise Hay again, but she is the ultimate guru on affirmations. So this is where you can really turn your challenge into a positive. Write out what you want from these challenges, for example,

  • I am so grateful for … (fill in blank: work, family, relationship etc.)
  • I am in a loving relationship.
  • I am financially-free.
  • I am a grateful, positive person who sees the good in all.

You decide what it is you want from your life. You decide what you can learn from these challenges.

Get excited about the challenges and seek something from them, it’ll be there waiting for you to discover it and you should welcome the learning with open arms.

Wishing you love, happiness and fulfilment always

This week’s positive word

on our A-Z Inspirational Journey …

O is for

OPEN

How are you feeling on this glorious Monday?

Do you feel as if you need a huge change? Are you happy with where you are in your life?

How open are you to change? How open are you to opportunities?

How open is your mind at this moment in time?

life begins comfort

It’s so easy to become stuck in a routine, every day passing us by, life passing us by. Even if we want to change we don’t know how, or we’re so use to the comfortable routine we’ve created that we’re scared of changing it.

But the only way to make changes in our lives is to have an open mind. Be open to new opportunities. Don’t dismiss ideas or chances because you feel it doesn’t fit with your current way of thinking.

The only way we can move forward in life is to open our eyes, open our minds and open our hearts.

Once your mind is open, the world is full of possibilities.

Not sure how to open your mind?

There’s a great exercise by wikihow – you can see it here

There’s a few videos on you tube – take a look here

This may not happen overnight, but once you’ve decided to have an open mind, you’re already more than halfway there.

Life becomes so much more exciting when your mind is open.

This week’s therapeutic creative writing exercise:

Think about a situation that left you feeling as if it was a black and white situation. Something that happened to yourself, or maybe it happened to someone else.

Think of the people in the situation. Pretend they are characters in a book – you can give them different names if you prefer – write down what you feel each character was feeling about this situation. A paragraph about their feelings, if they did something (that maybe you don’t agree with) ask yourself why you think they did it. If it help,s re-write a conversation between the people, or enhance a conversation you think may have happened. This type of therapeutic writing is excellent for understanding a situation better. To take your own emotions out of it and think about others, no matter how much it hurts. This isn’t saying, ‘Let people treat you badly,’ but does allow you to understand and in some cases forgive. Forgiving doesn’t mean letting people back into your life that have hurt you, but to forgive gives you peace.

This exercise should last as long as you need it too. Write down as much as you can to enable you to open your mind a little bit further than it might. As I said, this may not happen overnight, but this is a great place to start.

Inspirational Words: How To See The Magic In Life

This week’s positive word

on our A-Z Inspirational Journey …

M is for

MAGIC

Do you remember being a child and believing in magic?

Do you remember your imagination being stretched so far that anything was possible?

There were no limits …

Do you remember that feeling? Imagine how it would feel to have that feeling again.

my-quote-2-magic

As we become adults we are filled with norms and expectations of society that we are suppose to adhere to. Unfortunately magic isn’t one of the norms. In adulthood we describe events as coincidences. But what if you were to look deeper into these coincidences? What if you were to analysis these coincidences and really think about how they happened and why they happened? What if I told you they weren’t coincidences … they were magic? Don’t stop reading and think I’ve completely lost it … really think about life’s coincidences and ask yourself why.

This week’s therapeutic creative writing exercise, let’s look at coincidences that may have happened in your life

Take ten minutes (or longer if you can) to think about ‘coincidences’ that have happened in previous years, incidents that have sent you down a particular route. Have a think about the reasons these incidents may have happened …

Take one of the coincidences that has been significant in your life, something that really got you thinking about ‘fate’ – a chance meeting with someone, a job offer, an incident that saved your life.

Write this coincidence down, describe in detail what happened: Read below and answer some of the questions and add to your writing anything that will help you get a better picture of this coincidence.

Think about the people you’ve met because of this coincidence. Have they stayed by your side? Or did they just flit through? Some may have passed through for a short while, while others have stayed by your side through thick and thin. Just because someone doesn’t stay in your life for a long period of time it doesn’t mean they weren’t meant to be there … they were there for a reason. A magical reason to help you on your path. Whether it was a good or bad experience there will be a lesson to be learnt.

Let’s move onto another writing exercise: Think about the people who have entered into your life. Think initally about those who have passed through – write down their names if you have time, then write a reason as to what you gained from that relationship, what lessons have been learnt? Now look at the people in your life at the moment and write down those that are closest to you. Think about the magic that surrounds your relationship with them. Write a paragraph on each person. Think about your magical relationships. How did you meet? What have you experienced together? How have you both supported each other? Write all this down and truly feel the magic that has happened in your life. It’s a wonderful feeling to value the magic in a relationship. True friendship is one of the most magical things you can experience, so don’t ever take for granted true friends.

Some people believe in logic, but those who believe in magic will experience are more fulfilling life, a life of limitless possibilities and opportunities. Once you believe in the magic, you carry that around inside of you, projecting it our like a sparkling trail. An amazing feeling that you are being protected and there is a higher purpose. Our time here is magical, it should be our job to spread that magic wherever we go.

In the words of Roald Dahl …

magic-quote-3

So start believing in magic and watch miracles happen. It’s actually very exciting when you realise that magic does exist, and by believing you can make it happen.

Wishing you love, happiness and fulfilment always

Inspirational Words: How to Express More Kindness

This week’s positive word

on our A-Z Inspirational Journey …

K is for

KINDNESS

Kindness is something that should become part of your life.

kindness-quote-1
Credit: Pintrest

True pure kindness is the one characteristic that integrates a whole range of benefits without even thinking about it … from gratitude, appreciation, happiness, love … Being kind to someone can benefit you just as much as it benefits them.

Did you realise there is scientific research that shows being kind can make you and those around you happy?

You can see the range of research here at Think Kindness

my-quote-kindness-2

Here’s the thing, it doesn’t actually cost anything to be kind! From a smile in the street, to letting someone in front of you in a queue or giving up your seat on the bus. Simple but effective acts of kindness that will be integrated into your life and make you a happier person.

This week’s therapeutic creative writing exercise will allow you to express your kindness:

  • Write down a few sentences about what you think kindness is.
  • Is there anyone you know who you feel is exceptionally kind?
  • Do you feel you could improve your kindness in any way? If so, write these down.
  • Make a plan for this week … do something daily that will allow you to perform a kind act.
  • At the end of each day, write down how doing this kind act made you feel.
  • Take in those wonderful feelings and think about how you can instil this into your daily life.

If you’re struggling on how to express more kindness, here’s five top tips to give your kindness a boost:

  1. Ask yourself which friend could do with your help? Even a simple text to ask how they are doing can truly lift their day.
  2. Do you have lots of clothes hanging in your wardrobe that need to be cleared out? Do it now! Donate to charity! In fact go that one step further and give away an item that you love!!
  3. When you’re out and about today, compliment someone … never underestimate how much they will need it.
  4. Hide notes of encouragement to your spouse, partner, family member, children, friend … whoever in your life needs it, or doesn’t need it, but you want to show them how much you care.
  5. Visit someone who needs company; care homes and hospitals are the perfect place to spread kindness, you’ll be amazed at how many people don’t have visitors, so make the difference in their lives.

These five ideas are just the tip of the kindness boat … if you’re interested in filling your kindness bank, here’s a few more websites that will encourage you to do just that:

So there you have it, there’s more than enough reasons to get out there and be the kindness person. Not only does it benefit the person in question, but it benefits you too. If you read my blog posts regularly, you’ll know that we have certain house rules in our home, and one of them is as follows:

Wealthy Wednesday – Powerful Books

wealth-isWEALTHY WEDNESDAY

What is Wealthy Wednesday?

Wednesday is about helping you build a wealthy mind through inspirational books, articles, videos or other resources that will help you develop your wealth of knowledge.

Wednesday is a good day to understand your feelings. Are you counting the hours down until the weekend? Did you get out of bed this morning and think, ‘I’m nearly half-way through the week’?

We can all continue to develop our wealthy minds, but if you relate to the above, your spiritual wealthiness definitely needs some TLC  🙂

A few years ago I read these two powerful books.

Both are amazing and can really change the way you think. I’d recommend both of these books to build your wealthy mind 🙂

The Shack

The ‘The Shack’ which was recommended to me by a friend. This story is quite haunting at first, but the whole message within the book really got my mind working overtime. This is a powerful story and it really got me thinking. Whether you believe in God or not? If you want to know why? Why you? Why are we here? Why! Why! Why!

WHY!!!????

As many of us often do, this book does a good job at trying to explain it!

zen and the art of happiness

The ‘Zen and the Art of Happiness’ is another book that got me thinking.

For those who have touched on the Law of Attraction and the connection to the Universe, will enjoy this book.

It goes a bit deeper into the theory and touches on the scientific side (without losing the reader).

These 2 books are completely different but do actually complement each other. Admittedly, the ‘The Shack’ is quite emotional. I felt quite nauseous when reading the first part that I nearly gave up, not that I want to spoil the story, but I couldn’t understand how anyone could get over what Mack was facing, and this is not to say he does get over it, but working through his emotions is such an intriguing read.

The ‘Zen and the Art of Happiness’ confirmed for me everything I thought about the Law of Attraction and how I was on the right track. Proving today that I most certainly was.

So, do you need to analysis a few things in your life ? These are two great reads that will really get you thinking!
