How writing can be therapy to the soul; Do you have a book inside of you?

Credit: A Beautiful Mind

Writing can be therapeutic; as Psychology Today bloggers, Randi Kreger and Rochelle Melander point out, “Many psychological and medical studies have shown that writing about difficulties and dreams helps people experience increased happiness, health, and productivity.”

When we have lots of things going around in our mind, we often can’t sort through them. When the mind feels chaotic, it does affect the body and soul. If you can soothe your soul, the rest will follow.

One of the best ways to do this is through writing. Therapeutic and self-reflective writing are excellent ways to express your emotions. There are many therapeutic exercises on my blog. If you click through the A-Z you’ll find exercises for certain subjects. If you feel you have a blockage in an area of your life, have a look through and see if you can relate to any of the subjects. Have fun doing this, don’t put pressure on yourself. My exercises help to give you an avenue to start expressing yourself. You don’t need to show anyone these writings, you can keep them or throw them away.

If you feel like your head is in the middle of a motorway, then letting all this go onto paper is an amazing release. Research has shown that writing down our thoughts does help to clear our thoughts: it can help put things into perspective, see things more clearly and prioritise. The latter isn’t saying some thoughts don’t matter, however, there could be thoughts that are murking the waters.

For example, are you worried about the outcome of a situation? Are you stressing about things that haven’t happened yet? If this is the case, when you’re releasing these thoughts, write about the outcome you desire. Write as if you’ve received this outcome. Imagine the emotions and joy you would feel if you were at peace.

Writing is very powerful, many authors have created fictional stories through their own life experiences. When I was studying for my MA in Creative Writing, the saying, ‘Write what you know’, was used quite often. You can read more about, ‘Writing what you know,’ by Joanna Penn here. (It is one of her older posts, however, it is still very useful in terms of how authors bring personal experiences into their writing). My fiction books draw in life experiences, I love turning real-life into fiction, as it can help the reader, especially if they identify with a situation within my books.

Simply putting pen to paper is amazing for your soul. We need to take care of our inner selves so that our outer selves can shine. Don’t worry about spelling, grammar or even if your writing makes sense … just write and get those thoughts, emotions and experiences down on paper.

There is probably a book deep inside of you.

How To Be Your Most Radiant Self

I love the quote above by Jane Seymour. Think about this quote and think about someone you would describe as radiant.

Think about this person and ask yourself, what makes them radiant?

If you are thinking about the way they dress or how they look, then you are missing the point of radiance … because radiance comes from within.

Credit: Image by MinistaJazz on Pixabay

Radiance is the person who smiles, laughs and brings energy with them that is infectious.

Often, radiance can be wiped from us due to everyday life getting in the way (that treadmill I talk about). From the 9-5 mundane job you are stuck in, to the busy schedule of family life. The only thing radiating from many people by the end of the day is tiredness.

So how can you become more radiant and spread that radiance to others?

Credit: Image by jill111 on Pixabay

Firstly, think about your life?

Is there something that drags you down?

Can you change this?

Sometimes we can’t. Sometimes we have to take a new perspective on the ‘thing’ that is affecting our radiance. Changing your thoughts to a situation can give you renewed energy.

Here’s a little exercise to get you started:

  1. Write down the things you can change: a quick change, or a change that will happen over a period of time.
  2. Write down a plan to how you can make these changes: writing down your thoughts, emotions and plans is a great way to become focused on the task at hand. If a certain change needs a long time-frame, write down the steps needed to make this change happen.
  3. Now, write down the things you can’t change, as much as you would like to, but you feel these things can’t be changed.
  4. Look at the things you can’t change and write down the positive aspects. Change the way you look at these things, think about how you could embrace them into your life, how can you view these things from a different perspective. This task may be hard, but you will be able to draw something from this. Learning to love whatever life throws at you, helps to release good energy rather than negative dull energy that will affect other areas of your life.

We often wake up on a morning, with all the tasks we’ve got to complete, things we’ve got to do … pulling ourselves from our bed, we then put ourselves on autopilot and make our way through the day. Sound familiar?

One of the best ways to start your day is with gratitude …

Credit: Image by johnhain on Pixabay

Before you get out of bed on a morning, think about the things you are grateful for in your life. Say thank-you aloud. If you can jump out of bed shouting ‘thank-you’ you’ll soon notice a difference in your mood … and people will soon notice your radiance.

Here are a few more tips on how you can become more radiant:

1. Practise mindfulness: You can practise mindfulness through meditation, or simply look through my blog, there are several blog posts that will help you practise mindfulness. From finding your quiet, to soothing your soul, plus there are plenty of therapeutic writing exercises.

2. Rise above your troubles: Life sometimes throws us a curveball, but often situations arise because they have a deeper meaning. The best way to do this, is to ask yourself: what am I learning from this situation? What can I be grateful for? How will this situation affect me in a year’s time? What can you do to make the situation better? Challenge yourself, fight your way through … get up every morning with a smile and a grateful heart and your radiance will shine through.

3. Connect with others: When you’re out and about smile at others. A smile, a friendly hello or a small interaction with someone who crosses your path during the day, can give you an energetic boost. Don’t underestimate the power of connecting with others to increase your mood, this will inevitably lead to you becoming more radiant.

Making a conscious effort to be more radiant by bringing all of the above together. This is sure to bring out a radiance that will shine onto others.

Quotes To Help Jump Start Your Day

Are you jumping into your life? Or are you dragging through at snail pace?

Your morning alarm goes off … how do you respond? Snooze five million times until the last second hits you? Jump for joy at your wonderful day ahead? Or somewhere in-between?

My mornings vary between all three. Sometimes I snooze simply because I’ve worked late the night before (if this is the case, whatever my work was involving, blogging, creating workbooks, marketing, writing … whichever, I would have chosen to work late as I would have been thoroughly enjoying what I was doing). So even when I snooze, it’s a nice cosy feeling, it’s not a feeling of, ‘OMG, I CAN’T FACE THE DAY!’ It’s a feeling of, I’m so lucky, I get to grab an extra few minutes kip.

Sometimes life takes over and we forget there’s so much to be excited about. If you don’t feel this, then it’s time to create something to be excited about. Imagine the universe can deliver anything you want … ANYTHING! What would you jump out of bed for? What would really get your juices pumping? What would give you a reason to not press that snooze button, unless you felt lucky enough to just press it, because you can?

If you’d like to know more about how to jump into life and ignore the fear, you can read my blog post here. It also includes quotes, tips and a therapeutic writing exercise to help you take a leap of faith.

If you’d also like to surround yourself with quotes that will remind you to take the jump, you can visit my online shop for downloadable prints.

Live life to the fullest … do what you can with what you have … be grateful for all the opportunities that come your way … jump into the opportunities that serve you! Take the leap and have faith … if you don’t jump you’ll never know how close you were to making your dreams come true.

Express Yourself To Feel Alive – A to Z Inspirational Blog; X=Ex is for Express with Express Quotes and Therapeutic Writing

A-Z Inspirational Journey

This week’s inspirational word

X = EX

EX is for EXPRESS

Being a creative person, I love this quote by Kat Von D. I’ve always expressed myself through writing. Even in my younger days, I would write stories to express my feelings about what was happening in my life, especially as a teen. Anyone else, remember those days? Hormones raging, everything in the world seemed against you, restrictions from parents, teachers … I don’t know about you, but my teenage years were just a battlefield! Battlefield of emotions, feelings and trying to understand the world … I had a lot of whys that couldn’t be answered … But to release all that pent-up frustration, I would write.

I would write in my diary, but I always found it easier and more comfortable to write in fictional form. I loved (and still love) creating stories but basing them on real-life events. I love expressing myself through writing. I express myself through writing these blog posts and my fiction. We all have a reason for being here, our reason is our passion … our passion is a way of expressing ourselves.

So ask yourself, how are you expressing yourself? Are you expressing yourself? Are you keeping yourself hidden and feeling trapped because you are not allowing yourself the freedom to express?

Once you start to express yourself through a creative source or other, express to rid yourself of negative demons and then you’ll feel more love.

If you are expressing yourself from your truth, from your inner being, from your soul, you can’t help but feel more love. Letting go and expressing yourself is allowing yourself to feel free, allowing yourself to enjoy life and be you! Once you are ‘being you’, you’ll feel lighter, you’ll feel more love for yourself. Feeling love for yourself helps to radiate that love onto others. Once you are expressing from a place of love. You’ll feel peace.

This all sounds lovely, I understand, you may think you haven’t got time to express yourself … well, if you are that person thinking this, then you are the person who NEEDS to express themselves the most. Expressing yourself through your inner desires is as good as meditating. Some people feel meditating is sitting, listening to soft music and allowing our thoughts to fade. Unfortunately, this has never worked for me. I have tried, but I find it hard to switch off. I always have some project or idea fighting its way forward. I do, however, find putting on more upbeat music, something that I can dance too or calmer music I can sing to does help to clear my thoughts. Gabrielle Bernstein has some amazing meditation music, advice and tips.

But the best way for me to clear my thoughts is through writing. Pen on paper, not thinking, just writing … hence, another reason I set-up this blog; to show others how to use therapeutic writing to help them reach their goals, dreams and desires. Free writing is a way of expressing yourself without thinking about what you are writing. Simply write. It’s a great way to express yourself and get all those emotions out.

Your thing may not be writing … but you will have a way of expressing yourself … don’t shy away from that. Get out there and get expressing. The world needs you to express. You need you to express yourself.

In this week’s exercise, we are going to put the therapeutic writing to the side … unless that is the way you express yourself.

As I mentioned above, writing may not be your ‘thing’, so this week sit for five minutes and think about what you love.

Ask yourself …

What do I love doing? What makes me feel alive? What makes me feel like I’m talking from my soul? How can I express myself?

Now go and do it … this week, go and express yourself … Remember, YOU GOT THIS!

Remember: Positive messages throughout the day, helps the negative thoughts stay away.

How To Ask Angels For Help – A to Z Inspirational Blog; A is for Angels with Angel Quotes and Therapeutic Writing

Starting 2018’s

A-Z Inspirational Journey

with one of my favourite topics

A IS FOR ANGELS

I’m not sure the actual point in my life when I started to really ask my angels for help. I’ve always believed there are signs around us, telling us if we are moving in the right direction, I truly believe we are constantly being guided by signs. I also believe fully in the Law of Attraction and being guided by the Universe.

So although, I can’t remember the exact moment in my life when I became aware of signs from the angels, however, most of us turn to spiritually because of ‘a reason’. Something has happened in our lives that force us to seek help outside of the ‘perceived’ physical world we live in. When you begin to realise that our angels are always with us, you won’t just ask for their help in times of need, you’ll be forever grateful for their constant intervention, support and love.

Once this becomes second nature, when there are times of emotional or physical upheaval, you will deal with your problems, barriers and circumstances in a calmer and more positive way.

So how can you do this? How can you connect with your angels and silence your mind?

There are several ways you can connect with your angels, however, I highly recommend, the lady who is renowned as the Queen of Angel Therapy, Doreen Virtue, you can see some of her books here that I recommend. I personally, carry around an angel in my purse at all times, plus, I wear a feathered angel wing necklace and bracelet. If you’re interested in keeping your angels with you at all times, you can see my favourite angel gifts for yourself or as gifts for others here.

I’d also like to start the New Year with one of my popular Therapeutic Creative Writing Exercises, on how you can notice signs from the angels.

Therapeutic Creative Writing Exercise

This week, let’s start with a bit of ‘free writing’. Free writing is a form of therapy that can help you understand your emotions, feelings and thoughts better. So, find yourself a quiet space; space where you feel comfortable and can relax. The trick is to close your eyes for 10-20 seconds and let your thoughts flow. Let all those thoughts that collide with each other flow through your mind, then write. That’s it! Free writing is a great way to express your emotions, by writing them down you can actually see your thoughts on paper. It’s said that we have between 50,000-70,000 thoughts per day, which is between 35-48 thoughts per minute per person. That’s a lot of thinking! So hopefully you can see by writing down your thoughts, it will help you to see a pattern or give you more clarity.

Write for as long as you need, some people may need 10 minutes, some may need an hour. But once you have finished, read through your thoughts and as you do try to signify where you need help. This could be a situation with your career, family, relationships, health, whatever you feel is holding you back at the moment, bring that to life. Write down how the angels could help you. You don’t need to write down every time you would like help from the angels, but in this exercise, it will help, because you can identify where you would like the angels to help.

Once you feel as if you can ask for help, do so. Simply ask. Sometimes we may be asking for something but the Angels believe we deserve better, or it’s not the right time. They will deliver when the time is right. But you must keep the faith and believe. In the words of Doreen Virtue:

To help you think more about your Angels, here’s a few more of my favourite Angel Quotes:

Remember: Positive messages throughout the day, helps the negative thoughts stay away.
