D is for Dreams

Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone who has responded to the A-Z Inspirational Blog Posts. If they only help one person then that’s enough for me to keep writing them, however, it’s good to know there’s more than one person out there being encouraged by them.

I could have chosen a few words for D, such as, devotion, dedication, determination, however, I wanted to go with one of my favourite words … Dreams.

What would life be without dreams?

I’ve always lived by the rule that you can live your dreams if you believe enough. If you truly follow your heart and believe. There are many dreams that I’ve not achieved yet. But I’m not giving up as I truly believe dreams are what keep us going. Being a mum of two girls, my life has been surrounded by princesses, in fact, we were just at the cinema watching the new Cinderella movie this morning. Which was so lovely. A beautiful film that is so inspirational in following the words of courage and kindness … two things I totally believe in. Throughout all the Disney films the encouragement to follow your dreams is paramount in their messages. And yes, you may be thinking but they are Disney films … not real-life. And this is true. As we get older we are faced with challenges, barriers and circumstances that make us think, ‘What the hell is this all about?’ But if we keep thinking like that, how can we move forward? How can we get over obstacles in our life if we focus on them?

We must dream big, and we must never let go of these dreams. Dreams are what make life worth living. Dreaming makes the world possible. It makes you possible. Dreaming allows you to come out of your comfort zone and take those steps that will allow you to live the life you deserve. As I said last week, ‘What is the alternative if I don’t have the courage …’ What is the alternative if you don’t follow your dreams?

Life is about survival, so we focus on what needs to be done, to survive. We allow our life to be taken over by mundane tasks, we put our dreams to the back of our minds and we don’t allow them to come forward, we block them out. But if you did something daily, one little thing that could take you towards your dreams, what would it be? What could you do? Always remember, the little steps count … and we must take these steps to reach our dreams.

C is for Courage

Last week we talked about B is for believing, and thank you for those who sent me lovely personal messages. I do love to hear from you guys 🙂 This week I thought C for courage was the best word to carry on from belief.

It can take courage to believe in yourself, to truly except yourself for who you are …

In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson:


My belief in life is, ‘what is the alternative if I don’t have the courage …’ If you have a desire or dream taking those steps forward can be difficult, more so if your life is ‘comfortable’. But just because a life is comfortable, does it mean you are happy? Does it mean those deep burning desires do not affect your thoughts. Do you ever say, ‘if only …’ ‘I wish …’. Now, I’m not telling you to give up your 9-5 job that pays the bills, or leave your family on a year’s sabatical to go and ‘find yourself’, but I am telling you to think about the structure of your life. Those hours you waste thinking about your dreams and desires, could you be doing them? What can you do to fit them into your life? Can you adjust your routine? Can you get up that extra hour earlier or stay up an extra hour later to help you achieve your desires.

It is easier said than done, especially if you have 101 dreams, desires and goals, and sometimes it’s easier to just live our lives and believe that our dreams won’t ever be fulfilled. Do you know how many people out there are like that? Are you one of them?

It’s having the courage to say: ‘No … I want change, I want to make a difference in my life, I don’t want to get to the end of my life with regrets!’

Only YOU can have the courage to believe in yourself, believe in your dreams and know that YOU are capable of anything you put your mind to. Knock away that fear … have the courage to be who you deserve to be! Live the life you deserve!

B is for Belief

Last week I started my new A-Z of inspirational blogging, and I talked about having aspirations. If you haven’t read it, you can read it here. If you did, did you write down your aspirational list? Have you been visualising reaching these aspirations?

Some people can find this hard; a challenge to actually visualise something that hasn’t actually happened yet. One of the biggest barriers is self-belief! It’s believing that YOU can actually do it. You may say it aloud, you may even convince yourself, but deep down, somewhere in your subconscious you have a niggling feeling that is stopping you.

So this week is about belief and learning to concentrate on you and believing in yourself.

I’ve been wanting to meditate for years, after downloading a Free app on my phone called Headspace, I became more intrigued and attended a meditation session last week. And something the teacher said was quite poignant to many people’s reality: It’s our reaction to other people that causes upset feelings within us. It’s how we deal with these feelings. It’s how we push these thoughts out into the open and how we deal with them internally.

Which got me thinking about self-belief. There are so many people out there who won’t take a risk, won’t move forward with their lives because they don’t believe in themselves. They don’t believe they are worthy of doing anything more than what they are doing. Don’t believe they are capable. And they listen to other people who may spread negativity around them.

So this week, I want everyone who is reading this blog to use affirmations. Affirmations help in clearing the mind and help to understand that you totally deserve the best life ever! It’s the belief in yourself that will help you move forward.

Every morning when you awake, before you get out of bed, say, ‘Today is a wonderful day, I believe in myself and wonderful things are happening!’

Once you are out of bed, look in the mirror and say, ‘I believe in me’ five times!

Stop in the middle of the day and tell yourself, ‘I can do this, I am an amazing person and I totally believe in myself.’ If you can do this a few times a day, awesome!

When lying in bed, before you go to sleep, say, ‘I believe in me. I’m proud of myself. Thank you for a wonderful day. Tomorrow will bring more good things. I believe. I believe. I believe.’

Remember, The Law of Attraction tells us to believe we’re already there, you can do this, but you need to believe in yourself! Believe you’re already there. Believe. Believe. Believe!

A is for Aspiration!

Well, hi guys, I’ve left this blog untouched since the beginning of January!

That’s because I’ve been working full out on my wedding business www.calmweddings.com (getting married or know anyone getting married, please give it a visit – plus get your FREE wedding tips ebook!)

Anyway, this blog post isn’t about promoting my wedding business, but the idea for the series of these blog posts has come from Calm Weddings. You see, today we started our A to Z of wedding tips/ideas blog posts, and I thought, why not do it on inspiring and motivating blog posts!

So every Monday, I’m hoping to post something that will hopefully inspire you for the coming week!

So today, A is for Aspiration …successful-mountain-top

Here’s a quote from Jason Calacanis (an American Internet entrepreneur and blogger).

‘You have to have a big vision and take very small steps to get there. You have to be humble as you execute but be visionary and gigantic in terms of your aspiration. In the Internet industry, it’s not about grand innovation, it’s about a lot of little innovations: every day, every week, every month, making something a little bit better.’

I absolutely love this quote, and this doesn’t just come down to the internet, this comes down to following your dreams and making it happen. If anyone has read my inspirational book or follows me on twitter, you will know how I truly believe, ‘little steps count’. It’s always knowing that you have a goal in mind, and it’s about striving to achieve this goal, facing challenges, stepping over these challenges and knowing in your heart where it is you want to be.

When you hear the saying, ‘overnight success,’ I’m not sure there are many overnight successes out there – if any! Most successes have come through determination and belief that they can make it work. Most ‘overnight successes’ have taken many years to achieve their dream.

It’s about having that apsiration and never giving up on your dreams. Having aspirations gives you a focus, gives you something to work towards, it gives a meaning to life!

So today, have a think about your aspirations. Make them clear by writing them down.

Keep this list with you and whenever you feel a challenge is too big, visualise yourself already being there. The Law of Attraction tells us to believe we’re already there, you can do this, but you need to aspire to do or be something before you can believe you’re already there.

New Years Resolutions

Sorry to those who enjoy reading my blog posts, I realise it’s been over a month since my last one! November and December are always manic at this end, not only with Christmas but both my girlies have their birthdays. So it’s generally all go!

Then January started with me having this flu-like virus that seems to be hitting everyone. So it’s been a ropey start to 2015, but still anyone who reads my blog posts will know that it’ll take a lot more than that to get me down!

I’m really looking forward to what 2015 will bring. The universe is already putting things in place for me! I have an intern working with me and helping me to develop Calm Weddings. I’m loving the direction in which Calm Weddings is going. There’s so much to do and so much potential. Now I have Carolanne helping me for 3 months, we can really give the company a boost. She’s brilliant at writing blog posts and knows all about social media. Now for those of you who follow the Law of Attraction, you’ll understand when I say, she is exactly who I visualised! If I’d put down on paper the type of person I wanted to bring into the business, Carolanne fits the bill. So once again, positive thoughts lead to positive things. So watch this space with developments on the Calm Weddings front. I’m now visualising her staying … let’s see what happens.

Like most people I also put in place a number of New Year Resolutions: look after my nails (my worst bad habit is biting them!), start eating healthier and do more exercise. I think the latter two are on most peoples lists. We all start off with good intentions, usually by mid-January there’s a huge slump and by February these resolutions have gone out of the window. Now, I’m determined to make my resolutions work … how do I propose to do this? Well, with focus and constantly feeding myself with good and positive stories. My resolutions are also not exactly strenuous. As I find this can cause huge problems for many people: they set their expectations to high, therefore giving up when the first hurdle is too much of a struggle, or they set too many tasks. Trying to juggle too many things can lead to dropping it all and not doing any of it. Sound familiar? Many of us do this. It’s about taking small steps to achieve your goals. Last year my main focus was my businesses. Now I seem to be on track with these, they are pointing in the right direction, I’m loving learning new things and developing new ideas, I now know that I must start eating healthier. I want to start eating healthier. I love exercise, so I’m determined to fit this into my already busy schedule, as I know this will benefit me in so many ways.

One of the things that keeps me motivated is hearing about other peoples stories and how they’ve succeeded etc. If you’ve read my past blog posts you’ll know I’m a huge fan of Kimberly Synder, who must be one of the most inspiring people when it comes to eating healthy. Her newsletters provide real-life stories of people who have changed their way of thinking and have changed their lives. You must sign up to her website (No, I’m not on commission 😉 ).

So have a real think about your New Resolutions, have you set yourself unrealistic goals? How are you doing at sticking to them? What would help you stick to your goals? Ask yourself these questions and remember to keep at it. You can totally do this. I believe in you, but you must believe in yourself!

If you’re like me, following the law of attraction is all above giving love, being grateful and savouring every breath that we take. However, this doesn’t mean that life doesn’t take over … I still find my to-do list growing daily, I still run around like a headless chicken when trying to get my girls to school and I still have 101 things to do that I didn’t do yesterday.

However, I’m grateful for all of these things. Time is precious and as we rush through traffic on a morning, then remember we’ve forgotten the wellies that your eldest child needed for the muddy walk around the school field (yes, that was us this morning – although she was asked at least 5 times to put them in a bag!!) I’m still grateful for my child. I’m grateful for the opportunity that she can experience a new activity in the fresh air, I’m grateful that we can afford wellies for her, I’m grateful she has legs in which she can wear wellies, I’m grateful that I got them to school and I got back home safely … more so, I’m grateful that hubby was still home and he could take the wellies back to school 🙂

But in the midst of my gratitude and love, sometimes I do become a little overwhelmed by the tasks that need doing and also the tasks I want to do. There’s so much I want to achieve with my businesses and writing, but there are stepping stones that have to be put in place first. Patience isn’t my best virtue. However, once again, I’m grateful for all the opportunities that come my way.

So although I’m passionate about my work and my family, I have another need that I do like to fulfil and that’s spending time with friends. My family and work are my priority, but I love chilling and relaxing with friends. I’m very lucky to have some gorgeous supportive friends, who are practically my family. If you have friends who don’t make you feel good about yourself, then maybe you should re-think this friendship. Friends don’t judge, they listen, support and advise if neccessary.

Our awesome Murder Mystery Night!

Friends should be a get away to have some fun when all the mundane every day tasks (that we maybe grateful for) get a little too much. Recently I had a great night with some friends when we decided to do a Murder Mystery Night. Page2Stage a fab local company put on an awesome event for us. We dressed in 1920’s clothes and we had the best time ever! It took a few days to recover, but it was so worth it.

So, although I totally believe we should all follow our dreams and work hard to achieve our goals, I’m a huge believer in taking time out to recharge those batteries. If you feel you need a bit of downtime, arranging time with family and friends is the way forward. Make time for laughter and fun. It’s the best way to feel refreshed, blissful and extremely grateful for having such amazing people in your life 🙂

never-give-up-quotes-2For those who have dreams and goals they are aiming for, you’ll understand when I say, ‘but I’m just so tired!’

Do you ever feel like you’re on a treadmill? And no matter how much effort you put in, it doesn’t seem to be coming together, you don’t seem to be moving forward?

Well, I’m here to tell you, you are moving forward. You may feel like you’ve come to a standstill, but you haven’t, if your goal is still in your mind, you’re still ahead! Don’t give up on your passion … don’t choose to just exist.

I love listening to stories from others, how they have worked so hard to achieve their goal. Don’t get me wrong, I have days were I think, ‘What is this all about?’ But I truly believe I’ve been blessed with the need to achieve more in my life. Opportunities come to me and I feel truly lucky to have such scope to move forward towards my ambitions. I want to encourage others to do the same, as what would life be if we were all striving for the same thing (or not striving at all!)

I suppose my message today is, not to give up! No matter how hard things may seem, this is your life purpose, you’re needed to fulfil these dreams. The universe wants you to succeed … In the words of Churchill, ‘Never Give Up!’

Taking time to breathe!

I realise I haven’t written a blog post on my own site for over 2 months!

I actually didn’t realise how long it had been until I checked back over and I thought, ‘It’s time to air some thoughts on here!’

So where have I been? Well, most authors will tell you they’ve been working on a new book. Although, I have many notepads with stories that I will tell at some point, one of my other focuses is my online wedding business, Calm Weddings. There have been major developments in the business which has taken me away from writing fiction for a while. But not that I’m complaining, as I love my business. So I’ve still been blog writing, but it’s been on topics related to gorgeous wedding dresses, glamourous shoes and awesome fancy paraphernalia! Even if you’re not getting married, but you lovely girlie things … I’m sure you’ll love some of the things I find! There are lots of images on our pintrest page (which we’ve just joined and seriously becoming addicted too!).

Meditation… Why you need to do it

So, with all this going on. It got me thinking about how do all other people out there with busy lives prioritise? I know it’s not only me who is a busy working mum and wife, trying to put my family first, while trying to juggle work, household tasks and everything else that is thrown at us. Again, not that I’m complaining, but it did make me think … where is time going? Are we savouring this time as much as we should?

I like to think I am … I love what I do and I’m really lucky to have the opportunities that I have, so I’m so grateful that I’m not bound to a restricted life of a 9-5 job where someone else dictates the rules. But I don’t want it to pass me by so quickly that I wonder, ‘What on earth happened?’

So, I suppose I wanted to reach out to all you other busy people out and ask you to take 5 … I keep saying I’m going to meditate, but then I’ll tell myself, ‘I don’t have time!’ But meditation is so good for re-focusing and we’d also be savouring our moments.

If anything that I have learnt through my whirlwind life, is to be grateful for all that I have. I’ve read so much on the ‘law of attraction’ and ‘being at one with the Universe’, which I won’t go into in this post, however, there’s some amazing stuff to read out there, and I’ll be recommending some inspiring books soon. But often in our busy lives we forget what’s good in our lives, we focus on the next thing we have to do and this can cause a surmountable amount of stress.

 Victoria J. Brown tells a very real and relatable story of a transformational time in Kathryn Neasham’s life (AKA Kat). I could appreciate the family issues she tackled, the support of the sisterhood and the budding relationship with Max.

It’s an easy to read novel and although I’ve seen it described as chick-lit, the topics it deals with are very serious and sympathetically treated.

I could not put this book down as I was genuinely interested in what Kat was going through.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was genuinely gutted when it ended, thank goodness I still have books 2 and 3 to read. Highly recommend this book to anybody who loves chick lit that goers a bit deeper.
