H IS FOR HEART

‘Love’ is one of my favourite words … once you start living a life of love, rather than, jealousy, anger, hatred etc. you realise how wonderful life can be. So opening up your heart and letting the world in, is the greatest gift you can give yourself.

The best way to open your heart is to look at all the things you have to be grateful for. There is so much in your life that you could be taking for granted; your family, your health, your job … Once you start realising how blessed you are, your heart will naturally sore.

Life, for myself, has not always been easy. There have been devastating family fallouts, to a point I didn’t know how to get out of bed on a morning. Over time I’ve learned to live with the situation, as much as I didn’t want to. I’ve learned to forgive even when the other person is no longer around me. I’ve learned that my heart is strong. My giving heart has allowed me to experience other forms of love from friends who have become my family.

Now don’t get me wrong, at one point in my life I felt so alone. You made have heard the saying, ‘there’s a difference between being alone and being lonely.’ You can be in a crowd with thousands of people and still feel lonely. When you have lost that connection with the outside world, your ability to feel with your heart becomes extremely hard. I remember feeling so angry.  This anger didn’t last a day or a week, it lasted for years. It was like a disease inside of me, I couldn’t seem to get myself out of this ball of fury.

If you know much about the Law of Attraction, you’ll understand when I say I just seem to have more and more things to be angry about. It was at this time that a friend of mine introduced me to ‘The Secret.’ The secret changed my life. Since then I have read and learned so much more about the Law of Attraction, the universe, angels and God. There is an indescribable peace within my soul now. Since I lived my life coming from a place of love and having a generous heart, guess what? Yes … I’ve received more love back than I could ever have imagined possible.

So now, whatever the situation or circumstance that years ago would have had me seething, I give my heart and come from a place of love. This didn’t happen overnight. It did take practice to think with my heart. To practice living my life with all my heart. To come from a place of pure love. If you struggle with this, I always say, start with gratitude. Once you start practising gratitude daily you will automatically start coming from a place of love. Today, I wouldn’t know how to live any other way. Living through love and giving my heart always, is so natural to me now. Now, don’t get me wrong there are times when I get upset, of course there is, but the bounce back time to love, understanding and pure heartfelt gratitude is much quicker. I can turn this negative emotion around in seconds. Wouldn’t you love to be able to do that?

Life is full of wonder. Once you open your heart to this amazing prospect you will understand how your heart can be filled with joy. Having a grateful, giving and non-judgemental heart will open you up to an amazing life of warmth.

There are so many wonderful things happening in life and around us, feeling these precious things with our heart and soul is the most amazing experience. Once you start to live from your heart, from a place of love you will receive more love … your heart will sore.

Try it this week, when someone upsets you, stop and think. Don’t just shout or confront them back. Use your heart to give. Breathe deeply and imagine wrapping your arms around this person and smothering them with love. This doesn’t mean that people can walk all over you. The exact opposite, because once you come from a place of love, once you use your heart to make your life decisions, you will find that some people are no longer in your life. We attract our tribe … meaning you attract those in your life who are similar. So if you see something in someone you don’t like, have a little self-analyse of yourself and your own behaviours. It is time to no longer be a mood-hoover, it’s time be the loving, kind, giving individual you were put on this earth to be.

In week’s therapeutic writing exercise let’s look at gratefulness;

1/ Write a list of all the things you are grateful for in your life. What makes your heart swell? Kids, a cosy home, friends, family etc. Really think about all the good in your life.

2/ Write a list of the things you would like to change, at each point, ask yourself why. Write down what you can do to change it. What is your heart telling you to do?

If you feel these questions are too particular, just write … write about your grateful heart. How can you make your heart more grateful? How can you make your heart swell and sore? What can you do differently? Writing with a loving heart is a great way to start understanding your grateful heart.

Remember: Positive messages throughout the day, helps the negative thoughts stay away.

G IS FOR GROWTH

 

Becoming stagnant in life is very easily done.

We become accustomed to the routine of life; waking up – kids at school – job – pick kids up – dinner – bed! In addition to that, there will be a mixture of after-school activities, parent taxi-service, household chores and other essential tasks that need fulfilling. Sound familiar?

So then when we talk about growth on a personal level, we often feel we don’t have the capacity to fit anything else in, let alone look after ourselves. Wouldn’t it be great to just feel stable? Really … do we need to bring in the extra pressure of personal growth?

Being stuck in a rut is actually damaging to your health. Read here research from Harvard Medical School about the dangers; Samuel Parkes Cadman said, “the only difference between a rut and a grave is a matter of depth.”

Let’s look at this last quote … ‘unlearning old limits’ … so when we talk about being stuck in a rut, what part of your life do you feel reflects this rut? What old beliefs, if any, do you feel are holding you back?

Is there an area in your life that you want to grow and learn new ways of living? Or as we said above, unlearn habits and limitations? This could be your career, health, family … there could be an area in your life you feel is lacking. It’s your choice to push yourself forward and grow in this area. We always have a choice to either stay where we are or make the changes needed to live the life we want and deserve. Even if these changes are small, a small change made daily is better than no change at all. You will soon see results in this area of your life.

The key to change and growth is staying focused. Sometimes when we need to grow it can be hard work. It can be an effort that we really are not sure we have the energy to pursue. But you can do this. You got this. If you feel a pull towards a certain change, an area in your life that needs your attention so you can grow and prosper then go with it. That pull is there for a reason, you need to follow that pull. Don’t be pushing it back. You may even tell yourself you are pushing it back until ‘later’ … but does ‘later’ ever come? Forget whatever else is going on in your life, and yes, sometimes it isn’t the right time to make changes, but if you feel that it’s never the right time to make changes, then there never will be a right time, so just do it. Just start putting steps in place to push yourself forward.

Continue to grow even when it feels too hard … because this will be the time when you desperately need to grow. Growing will leave these hard times behind.

In this week’s therapeutic writing exercises, let’s look at how you can help yourself grow …

Let’s focus on where you’d like to be in the future. Thinking ahead will help you focus on the tasks that need to be fulfilled to achieve these goals. I’m all for living in the moment, but if you’re not growing as a person, if you feel stuck in a rut, you’re not really living in the moment.

This is a free-writing exercise, so simply write down what comes into your head … (we are going to work back over as it will help you focus on your long-term goals and break them down).

1/ Where would you WANT to be in 10 years time?

2/ Where would you WANT to be in 5 years time?

3/ Where would you WANT to be in 1 year’s time?

Now take each question and break it down … what do you need to do to reach these achievements? Obvious question is, what can you do today to help yourself grow? What can you do today to take you closer to your goal? This includes, what do you need to stop doing to grow? What old beliefs and limitations do you need to change?

Remember; small steps count. Ask yourself; what would you thank yourself for tomorrow?

Throughout all this exercise, remember; YOU GOT THIS! You are strong! You have these urges, passions and goals because you are meant to achieve them. We are all here for a reason, you need to ask yourself if you are fulfilling your reasons for being? If you feel as if you are not growing into the person you want to be, what can you do to make this happen?

If you feel the above questions are too difficult to think about? You’re not sure where you want to be, simply write. Write about the life you’d like to have, where you’d like to be in the future, write about want you feel is holding you back, write about your unlimited beliefs and limitation … simply write and you will find your answers to the above questions.

F IS FOR FOCUS

Admittedly this is one word I can struggle with … FOCUS!

What? And I’m writing a blog on it?

Yes … because I’ve had to learn several ways to stay focused on one particular task. I often have many projects on the go at once, which is never a great thing, but they are all projects I want to do. When I lose focus, nothing gets finished. I have projects hanging over me and I wonder which is a priority … then the kids are off school with their half-term holidays which seem to come round pretty fast! Once again, projects are put back, as the chaotic life with kids envelopes our world.

Sound familiar?

The first quote by Eric Thomas and this second quote by T.F.Hodge, seem to contradict each other a little. However, put them together, they do make perfect sense. If you have set yourself a task, then you have a specific outcome you desire. However, focusing daily on steps that will help you reach that outcome is the best way forward.

So in times of life’s upheavals, focus on where you want to be daily, do something in that given moment to help you to move closer to the outcome. Putting plans and steps in place will help you focus on the tasks that need to be achieved.

In this week’s therapeutic creative writing exercise, we are going to FOCUS on lists …

Lists are a fantastic way to off-load everything you need to do and everything you ‘want’ to do. I find, the ‘want’ seems to stay somewhere in the distance when the ‘need to dos’ take over.

How can writing a simple list be classed as therapeutic writing? Try it and see how therapeutic it feels. Even more so, see how therapeutic it feels when you can start ticking off the things you have achieved. Especially, ‘your wants’ list.

So in this exercise, the key is to write 2 lists …

Your first list is your ‘need to do’ list – this could be anything from making kids packed lunches to filing tax returns … get scribbling away! If it helps think about your chores throughout the day, write down the things you MUST do daily.

Your second list is your ‘want to do’ list – this is all the things you would love to squeeze in; this could be a drink with friends, buying a new pair of shoes or simply have a relaxing bath without a child coming in to use the toilet! Obviously, you might want to elaborate a bit more than relaxing baths, such as, developing a new career, starting a healthier lifestyle or achieving a goal that is out of your comfort zone.

Only you can decide what to put on your list, as these are your ‘wants’ – you’ll realise once you start focusing and achieving these ‘wants’ life becomes a happier place to be. A happier place leads to an increase in positive energy, once your positive energy increases so will your focus.

Once you have your lists, you will complete the ‘need to dos’ and they will be a priority, but now focus on something you would love to do. Can you put steps in place to work towards these ‘want’ daily? Even choose one of your ‘wants’ to work towards.

Remember, SMALL STEPS COUNT!

What can you do to start ticking off your ‘want’ list?

Talking about serious personal-development ‘wants’ now – your ‘want’ could be that you’d like to start your own business, you’d like to experiment with a new hobby or you’d like to change a habit. These goals may not seem like a priority to you, however, making them a priority will enhance your well-being and mindfulness. Doing something you love can often make people feel guilty, but focus on the feel-good factor and watch your life improve ten-fold.

Once you focus on what you want from life, you will receive more of what you want. Focus on being grateful for all that you receive and the opportunities available to you – grab your life with both hands. Remember that the universe is always projecting back to us our thoughts. So whatever we focus on, we gain more of. So focus on what you want and make your life amazing.

Are you struggling to keep your energy levels high?

Would you love to increase your energy levels to draw more positivity to you?

Depending on our environment, our circumstances or other external influences, our energy vibrations can vary. The key in life is to not let external ‘stuff’ affect your energy levels. I realise this is easier said than done. Especially if you’re an empath, like me. (Empaths feel people’s energy levels, they are sensitive to people’s vibrations … we often draw people to us who need to ‘talk’. I could tell you many stories from a relaxing spa day that turned into me counselling the beauty therapist, to the poor man whose wife had left him by text for his friend and he ended up in hospital – the latter I was simply stood outside a shop … this type of thing happens to me all the time. Rather than take the person’s energy, I give them some of my positive vibes. I always send them love and ask that a higher power guides and helps them.)

Feeling at peace with yourself is the best way to protect yourself from negative influences. There could be things going on in your life that you have no control over. If this is the case, choose your reaction towards it. Once you choose a positive reaction, think from a positive perspective you will see how your world will change. Protecting yourself helps to enhance your energy, this, in turn, vibrates onto others.

E IS FOR ENERGY


We can talk about fulfilling dreams and following passions, belief, being positive, be an inspiration, but if we don’t have the positive energy to do these things, we’re not going to get very far. If our mindset isn’t in the right place and we are literally fighting to get through our busy day, by the time the evening comes we are too tired to think about achieving our dreams. The energy we are emitting is being reflected back to us, so if you feel unenergised it’s time to look at ways to fill yourself with positive energy.

Energise You by Oliver Gray, gives the simplest solution to finding your energy for life:

There is a very simple formula for achieving great health, high energy and happiness

  • Consistently do more of the things that positively affect your health, energy and happiness.
  • Do less of the things that affect you negatively. 

Simple right?

You’re probably thinking, well I know this, but I’m too tired and busy to think about doing more positive and less negative things. But imagine how wonderful it would be to feel completely energised daily. So many things affect our energy, from eating the wrong foods, to being in the wrong job or relationship, to the surroundings in which we live or work. Something as simple as a negative interaction throughout the day can send our vibrations soaring downwards, affecting our whole day … but my motto of, ‘Positive messages throughout the day, helps keep the negative thoughts away.’ If you can instil some positivity into your thoughts, your energy will lift. Once your energy has lifted, you will become motivated. Once you are motivated your energy vibrations will become higher.

Remember, small steps count, so rather than going fully in and changing everything at once, for example; say you need to lose weight and eat healthier, plus you hate your job, your relationship is at breaking point and you are generally at a point of despair … You’d be surprised how common this scenario is. These aspects all affect each other, if you’re unhappy with yourself, you project that out and you receive that negativity back.

So the aim is to become a bundle of high energy … you may be asking, ‘How?’

If you have several areas to change in your life, take one area at a time and focus on making changes to that particular area. For example, you could put a dietary and fitness plan in place, ensure it fits with your life and focus on not only becoming slimmer and healthier but focus on how this will affect other areas of your life. For example, once you start to see signs of your healthier happier body, you’ll have more energy. You’ll also have more confidence to go out there and get that new job. Your relationship will either naturally improve because you are happier, or you’ll make the decision that the relationship doesn’t make you happy and it is time to move on. I make this sound cut and dry … I realise it isn’t as simple as throwing together a blog post and these changes will happen overnight. If you’re not in the right frame of mind, it takes work to change those thoughts around, but I can assure you that positive thoughts will help raise your energy levels.

A great way to start raising your energy levels is with positive messages, instil positive thoughts throughout your day and then work on changing one aspect of your life, one day at a time. This time next year is coming, so start putting those plans in place. Imagine yourself in a happier place … your dreams, goals etc. may take longer than a year, but start on that journey and start to reap the rewards. The time is passing anyway, so do sometimes to increase your energy levels and start living a life of excitement, passion and fulfilment.

Self-Reflective Therapeutic Creative Writing Exercise

Using free writing, write down the things that you would change to enable you to become more positive. What do you feel is holding you back? Scribble down these thoughts, without analysing them, just write until you have allowed the words to be in front of you.

Read through them. Ask yourself what changes can you actually make.

Now write down what plans you can put in place, making one change at a time. Small steps count. Every step you take towards a higher energy vibration, the closer you are to uplifting your energy levels. The more you uplift your energy levels, the more positive energy you give out leading to a greater positive life.
