M IS FOR MIND

Your mind is one of the most powerful tools … have you heard the saying, ‘Your mind is playing tricks on you!’?

What does this actually means?

It usually refers to a time when we are tired or not thinking clearly and the mind starts running away with itself. Have you ever convinced yourself of something that isn’t true? I’m all for gut instinct, as we have it for a reason, however, there are times when our mind decides to wander into depths of the unknown, that unknown becomes real to us, to a point we convince ourselves that this is our belief. For example; we convince ourselves we’re not good enough, that people don’t like us, that we are not worthy! Sound familiar?

This is why mindfulness is important. Mindfulness is somewhat a new buzz word, that actually has been going on for centuries, however, mindfulness is very important to our well-being; mentally, physically and emotionally.

If we can convince ourselves of our unworthiness, we sure as hell can convince ourselves of our worthiness. No-one is more important than you and you are no more important than anyone else. We all exist on this physical plane together, if we encouraged, supported and lived as one, the world would be a better place. Now you may have some kind of passion that you feel you can’t quite muster up the courage to fulfil, you’re worried about what people will say, you’re worried you will be judged, now this little voice is your ego. Your ego will convince you that you are no good at these given talents … because that’s what your passion is, ‘your given talents’ – you’ve been given these talents as a gift to give to others.

Now you can either allow your mind to listen to your ego, which may have been influenced by those around you; not giving you encouragement or support with your passion. This is very common. Parents, siblings and other family members can be the worse influence, believe it or not, often it is not done out of malice, but from a place of fear. ‘They don’t believe that great things can happen to people like you (them)’. ‘They don’t want you to be disappointed if you fail’. ‘It’s best to go down a safe route’. These statements, like many others, can chip away until you believe them. Until you believe them more than you do your in passion.

My passion is writing, it has been since I was a little girl. I love writing fiction, which you can see more about my women’s fiction here, however, I also have the drive to inspire others through my writing, hence the reason I feel drawn to writing my inspirational blog. I could have centred my blog around writing fiction, I have a MA in Creative Writing, I am qualified to teach others on how to put a story together, but instead, I’m drawn to influencing others through my writing. Encouraging others through my writing. I could easily put together videos because that’s a trend that has taken off immensely, I don’t feel that my purpose is to video myself and talk to you … although, if we met, I’m sure you’d find I sure can talk, but my motivation comes from writing. If I’d listened to others, even my parents, I’d be working in a 9-5 unfulfilling job. I did that until I had my daughters and quite honestly, I found it soul-destroying.

I knew I had to follow my passion. I also know I have to encourage others to follow theirs. There are far too many nay-sayers in the world. People who believe we are here to pay our bills and just get on. We are not. We are here to fulfil a purpose. So let your mind wander, let your mind take over, let your mind take you in the direction of your dreams.

If you’re a creative person who needs freedom, you’ll understand where I’m coming from with feeling soul-destroyed because of rules and regulations. You feel restricted. Now, this is because you have a purpose that needs fulfilling. One of the main reasons you are not fulfilling this purpose is because your mind has convinced you that you are not worthy. But if you have that urge or desire then grab it and don’t listen to anyone around you who brings you down, or doesn’t allow you to fulfil your potential. Even if it’s a loved one. This is their fear, don’t allow it to be yours.

So, it’s time to start practising mindfulness and ensure our mind has our back … our mind doesn’t want to rule against us, our mind wants to ensure we fulfil our destiny. It’s the ego that chips away. So let’s get ignoring that ego and focus on nurturing our mind so we can achieve our dreams.

In this week’s therapeutic writing exercise, let go and write about your passion(s);

However, before you start free-writing, take 10-15 minutes out to just breathe. Sit in silence and breathe. If you have children, I understand you’ll be thinking, ’10-15 minutes to breathe, that would be nice’, I get that, but I urge you to do this … and try not to fall asleep!

Once you’ve breathed deeply for 10-15 minutes, write …

Write about your passion. If you could fulfil your purpose what do you think it would be? What do you think you’re here to do?

Write until you feel the need to stop. Get your thoughts out on paper. You are here to fulfil this passion. You have a purpose. Convince your mind of this and ignore the ego.

I realise many of the exercises throughout this blog is to write about what you want to achieve in life, but once you start understanding and reiterating this, you will soon find yourself pushing yourself towards your dreams. Your mind will start focusing on the positives. Positives lead to more energy. Energies lead to greater mindfulness.

This week’s inspirational word

L IS FOR LAUGHTER

You’ll have heard the saying, ‘Laughter is the best form of medicine’ … if not, read this awesome health article.

Science says: Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

For me, laughter is essential in my every day living. Now, admittedly, I do have a wicked sense of humour, so I do find lots of things funny. I laugh at myself, I laugh with my girls, I laugh with my friends. I like to laugh. I’m not quite sure how people get through their days without a dose of laughter.

You may be thinking at this moment, I have nothing to laugh about. There’s always something to laugh about. ALWAYS! Okay, do you find yourself being annoyed when you hear people laughing, because, life just isn’t funny! Why do some people get to have such a good time and you’re feeling down and miserable. How did you get the raw deal?

Ok, this is where we go back to basics … gratitude! Write a list of all things you are grateful for in your life. This will move you slightly out of the heady zone. The zone of self-pity and low self-worth. Really study these things you have in your life, don’t focus on the things that are bringing you down, focus on the good. This is a sure way to start to bring more laughter into your life.

If you are really feeling that laughter is just not happening at the moment, then go for a walk. Walking in the outside air, in nature, is a great way to release endorphins, which will make you feel better which in turn can lead to more laughter.

Even if you’re not feeling the need to laugh, sometimes if we are in a situation that requires us to be polite, fake laughter can lead to real laughter. Try it with just smiling to yourself. Smile to your heart’s content. Smile until it actually does lead to laughter.

We can all find different things funny, I find most things funny, from comedians to practical jokes … I can find myself in situations where I shouldn’t laugh, but I do! They are the worst. But that’s because I don’t take myself or life too seriously. I like laughing. Laughter is good for the soul.

So find something that is bound to make you laugh; there are endless clips on youtube – from babies giggling to harmless pranks. Spend time with people who make you laugh. If you find these people are few and far between, maybe look at picking up some new hobbies, join some groups and meet new people. Friends should be the people we go to in times of sorrow, the shoulder to cry on, but they are also the people you should turn to if you need a good old belly laugh. Once you start to feel happier, you’ll attract happier people into your life, which will lead to more laughter. So start pasting on that smile and attract more smiley people to you.

This week, is not only about therapeutic writing, we are going to take some physical actions;

Firstly, using the free-writing technique, ask yourself these questions;

1/ When was the last time you laughed? Properly laughed … felt it from inside …

2/ Write about a few situations in your life that have made you laugh …

2/ What makes you laugh? Comedy shows, jokes, conversations with friends … there will be certain things in your life that trigger a release of laughter, think about this and write about it.

Secondly, actions …

This week your task is to do something that makes you laugh … really laugh … from the above writing exercise, you will surely find something in your life that truly makes you giggle. Have fun. Get those laughter lines and memories made … once you increase your laughter levels, watch the joy in your life increase.

K IS FOR KARMA

Karma … another of my favourite words!

What you give out … you get back. Simple!

Yes, it really is that simple! Once you realise this, you will reap the rewards of an amazing life.

My motto in life is to, ‘Spread and send the love’. My daughters have this motto instilled in their way of life, to a point that even their friends repeat it … At the ages of 11 and 9 years old, they tell people to, ‘Send the love’. Admittedly sometimes they struggle with the concept as they are learning about life and people, but we talk through situations and circumstances to allow them to understand that they can’t change the behaviour of others, they can only choose their own behaviour. They can only choose their own reaction.

This is the thing with karma, many people think it is a punishment or reward, but it is simply a reflection of the life the person is living. Choose happy, loving actions and karma will reflect back a happy, loving life. Just like the ‘Law of Attraction’ – what you put out there, you get back. Karma talks more about your actions, where the Law of Attraction relates to not just actions but to your thoughts too.

We can’t change someone else’s behaviour, so if they hurt us that is their doing and that will be reflected back to them, it’s not our place to reflect it back to them, how we react to that hurt will be reflected back to us. If you seek to spread love rather than cause disruptions in the lives of others, then you will receive that love back. People in your life who do not serve your loving purpose will dwindle away because they are not serving you or your purpose. Unless of course, you keep attracting them back to you! If this is the case, ask yourself why? It could be they need you to show them your loving ways.

We say simple things such as, ‘What you put out there, you get back.’ But when we really look into our life, we don’t understand some behaviours of others, so we judge them … this judging leads to negative thoughts … these negative thoughts lead to negative outcomes. It’s like a little circle that keeps turning. But it is very simple, you just have to believe and live your life with love. Live your life happily, not judging others, letting people live the life they want, while you live the life you want.

Think about how you treat people and see how you feel people treat you. Sometimes it’s hard to analyse ourselves. We can be very judgemental of ourselves but then we can display behaviours that we don’t even realise we possess. Maybe watch the behaviour of others, you may not see some of the karmic energy working in the background, but it will be there. When you start to see these energies working, you will soon get a buzz from being the loving, non-judgemental person you were put here to be.

Now, don’t get me wrong, some people are mood-hoovers, miserable, complainers … there are people out there who like to see others suffer, who relish in the joy of upsetting others or the failures of others. Sometimes these people are in our life as lessons. We need to rise above their negativity and spread out our own positive thoughts and beliefs. Once you stop reacting negatively towards others, even when you are faced with negative people, you will start to attract more positive people into your life. It’s like a little chain reaction. So be joyful and happy for others. Be the person who wants peace in the world. Carry your pure heart and soul and watch karma work for you, not against you.

 In this week’s therapeutic exercise think about the actions you have taken this week, free writing style;

Write about the actions you have taken and how you think these actions have influenced your life?

What has happened recently in your life that you feel you may have influenced by Karma?

What could you change in your life, so that Karma reflects good intentions back to you?

This week’s inspirational word

J IS FOR JUMP

Jumping doesn’t sound like the most inspirational of words, however, the connotation behind it can mean so much more than we can imagine. Let’s look at it from the verb that it is, ‘Jump’ – Give yourself a shake on a morning, stick on some tunes and jump! Yes, if you’ve got kids, get them to join in and jump, dance and shake away all that negativity that may be hanging over you first thing on a morning. Not only is this a great way to start your day, if you do have kids, you’ll be showing them the best way to live their life.Once you’ve jumped around the kitchen in your pj’s, you’ll feel that you can jump into life.

Starting your morning routine with a jump is a great way to increase your energy levels. Increased energy levels will allow you to live life from a positive angle.

Ok, so maybe you don’t have any inclination to jump out of bed on a morning and dance around the kitchen, but on a serious note, you should look at jumping into a life you want and deserve. A leap into your passions, the things that make you tick. If you jump into your life and follow your heart, you’ll want to jump out of bed every morning and dance around the kitchen.

I know, it seems like a catch-22 situation … but you must take the plunge to live a different life, if the life you are leading at the moment isn’t serving you. You must take the jump to make the changes and grow. When you take the leap you have to hold on and fly with it. There’s no point half-heartedly attempting, yes take small steps, but your heart and soul needs to be in it, even if the steps are small, because if the slightest hiccup occurs, you’ll be running the other way fast. Once you start running the other way it’s hard to get back on track. But when you take a jump that fills your body with joy, you will knock down any barriers that come your way.

Sometimes we need an extra push to take a plunge, take a risk or simply live our life. Fear is your ego talking. Telling you not to take the jump. Fear will stop you leading the life you truly deserve. If you listen to your fear, you will allow circumstances, situations and people to get in the way of the life you SHOULD be leading.

Is there something you long to do with your life? Is there a dream you wish to fulfil? Waiting for circumstances to change or be perfect before you take that jump, will inevitably leave you standing still; stuck in the same spot. If you feel an urge to make a change in your life, follow your instincts, follow your gut and make it happen.

Jump into the life you want; the life you deserve – only you can make these changes. If jumping feels scary then do it in stages, take baby steps, because remember the smallest steps count.

In this week’s therapeutic writing exercise, ask yourself these questions; (and then free write for as long as needed)

If I could take one jump in my life, what would it be?

Why would I want to take this jump?

What difference would this jump make to my life?

How would it improve my energy levels?

What can I do to make this jump happen?

This week’s inspirational word

I IS FOR IMAGINATION

We use logic every day. We live our lives logically. That’s the way the world works. That’s what we’ve had brainwashed into us since we realised all the make-believe playing we did as a child was just that, play! It was us using our imagination to create a whole new world. More than likely you were told that imagination is for children. As we grow out of childhood, the play stops. As teenagers, we want to be just that, ‘teenagers’, we don’t want to labelled immature and childish, so as we grow older we stop using our imaginations as much.

We become adults and more often than not, in the daily routine of life, we forget how to use our imagination. We get caught up in chores, tasks and deadlines, we forget to use our inner child to bring to us what we want from life. We might have children and watch them use their imaginations to play, we feel nostalgic and, maybe a little sad, because we think, if only life could be all imagination and play. As adults, we forget this is one of the key ingredients to living a happier more fulfilled life.

Here she goes again, I hear you saying, with her fluffy view on life … I love it if you did say that. I do have a very fluffy view on life. Proudly so. Life is full of joy and happiness. When I think about how wonderful life is, I feel all marshmallowy inside. I’m warmed by the miracles and magic that have happened in my own life and I know that’s why I have to write these blog posts, to get you to understand the fulfilment you can have in your own life, if you simply imagine it.

As I always tell people, I haven’t always been so bubbly and positive … gosh, in my early twenties, I was probably the biggest mood-hoover roaming the earth! But it is amazing what can happen when you start coming from a place of love, gratitude and joy. Amazing things happen.

The Law of Attraction works. It is always working whether you have positive or negative thoughts, it is working and it is delivering back to you those thoughts. So just imagine, if you could imagine something and make it happen!

Have you heard the saying, ‘Fake it, until you make it’? Think about this, while you’re faking it, you’re imagining living the life you want. So whether you want to run your own business, be healthier or have more ‘me-time’ – if you start to imagine these things are happening. They soon will. It sounds simple. If it is that simple, why isn’t this working for everyone?

The thing is, it is working, but people are not believing either in themselves, their ideas, their imagination or all of these things. So the Law of Attraction is working … if you don’t truly believe in this imaginary world then you’re telling the universe it is imaginary. You’re not allowing yourself to be deserving of this imaginery world. Your imagination is so powerful, but a true core belief has to come with it.

The Law of Attraction works simply; what you think about you attract. So use your imagination to attract the life you want … the life you deserve.

Imagine a life full of laughter, joy and happiness … sit back for five minutes and imagine yourself in this state of euphoria.

Now let’s use this week’s therapeutic writing exercise to help you get there;

Simply use the free-writing technique to answer this question; (just write, don’t stop writing until you have poured out onto the paper the life you wish to imagine).

Question: Write your own story … write a story of bliss, happiness, joy … where are you? What are you doing? What does your life look like?Imagine your best life … what does it look like? Use your senses to imagine this life … what can you see? Hear? Smell? Touch? Taste?

Remember: Positive messages throughout the day, helps the negative thoughts stay away.
