Q is for Quotes

I thought ‘Quotes’ was the perfect word for this week’s blog. If you’ve been reading my blog posts, or you follow me on twitter, you’ll know that I absolutely love inspirational quotes. I could sit and read them all day long, in fact, I’ve done just that when I’ve been putting together my annual inspirational books and making sure the quotes fit for that given theme.

But today I thought I’d let loose a little and give you some of my favourites … the first three quotes I have situated on the walls in my home.

P is for … Power

Credit: Quotation Of

The word Power has so many connotations for some people.

Some people automatically think of people in power, and although the following statement is true:

The meaning of the word power today is about other people, it’s about you!

How much power do you have over your life, your thoughts, your feelings and your emotions?

What if I was to tell you, you have all the power over these things. You have the power to change your thoughts and create a life you deserve. You have the power to ensure your mind and body is healthy through goodness and determination.

You may feel your situation or circumstance is stopping you from feeling powerful, but it’s your mind that needs your strength not the material things in life. You have the power to change your thoughts.

A great way and simple way to start changing your thoughts, is to appreciate the good in your life. Like last week’s blog post about ownership, you own your thoughts. If you haven’t already, have a look at the exercise from last week, step 4 will give you the power you need to change your thoughts.

Remember: you have the power to change your life – now go and do it.

O is for … Ownership

Let’s start today’s blog post by asking you a few questions:

How much ownership are you taking of your life?

Do you blame others? Are you in control of your life?

Are you happy in life where you are? Do you want more from life?

You do realise it’s only you that can make those changes … no-one else but you …

Take ownership of your life today my-quote-2-ownership

Do you feel a bit lost though? Not sure how to start taking ownership of your life when there’s so much hustle and bustle … life is busy and that’s why we have to take control and make sure we’re living the life we deserve .

To help you on your ownership path, I’ve put together a 5-Step Plan that will definitely help you on your way to owning your life.

1/ Do something for at least 30 minutes a day (preferably an hour if you can) that is for you, i.e. Develop a passion, read, exercise, take a walk, bake – anything that makes you feel like you are looking after yourself.

2/ Start writing a journal. I’m a huge advocate for therapeutic writing. It was something I learned when studying for my MA in Creative Writing, and realised I’d actually been doing this all my life. Even when I’m writing fiction I’m expressing something inside of me (which you’ll find with most writers). But when you start journalling you’ll allow a release of any pent-up negativity. Write down the things that have made you sad or angry and why you feel that way. By writing this down it allows you to reflective on these negative emotions, don’t dwell on them … release them. It will also allow you reflect back in weeks, months and years to come as you move yourself forward and take ownership of your life. It is also essential to write down the good things that have happened in your day too … see next step as to why the good things matter, more so than the bad things.

3/ Once you start writing down the good things in your life you can start to appreciate what you have around you and within you. Start writing down 5 things you are grateful for every day and watch how you’ll find more things to be grateful for. You bring to your life what you focus on, so although it’s good to write down the negativity you are feeling, this is a way of release, focuses on the good in your life will bring you more good. It’s the basic LAw of Attraction and is easier said than done, but once you start writing down those thoughts you’ll see the magic happen.

4/ Write a plan about where you would like to be this time next year – put together a 12 month schedule. Write what you would like to achieve in each month. At the end of each month review … you will move forward so much faster if you have a plan.

5/ Read something spiritual or inspirational for 30 minutes every day. This is best either first thing on a morning or last thing at night.

You deserve to get the best out of life, so go and get it 🙂

N is for Never Give Up!

Yes, three words this week, but three of the most important words you’ll ever need to hear … there are others such as,

‘I love you …’  however, Never Give Up, is right up there on the top of my list.

I’m keeping this blog post, short and sweet, because there’s only so many times you can say …

In the words of Winston Churchill,

never give up

There are times when you feel your dream is too far away, or your goals feel like they are at such a stretch it’s never going to happen. But once you give up, you’ll never know how close you were. There’s so much hard work goes into achieving our goals that sometimes we feel the need to stop … now stopping for a while can be a good thing. To reassess, reevaluate where you are … but you must start back up again, don’t just give up!

You’re on your journey for a reason, if you want it bad enough then keep going until you have it.

The alternative to never giving up, is living a life of , ‘what ifs’.

Why would anyone want to live with that?

M is for Meditation

Credit: About Meditation

I have such a busy and active mind, to a point where unless I have my to-do list, shopping list and random other lists it doesn’t get done.

So when the idea of meditation came up I really loved the thought of this relaxing technique, but really didn’t think I could quieten my mind. I really thought there is no way in this world, I can think about nothing!

How wrong could I be?

If you’ve not tried meditating, if you’re one of those people, like me, who would swear blind it’s just not going to happen. Think again!

Because it’s not about thinking about ‘nothing’, it’s about looking within and finding your inner peace.

I first experienced meditation in a class environment, it was lovely and I felt so refreshed and renewed for days after. However, I then discovered meditation apps; Headspace and Calm. Both are amazing for really chilling the mind.

By focusing on your breathing, it’s amazing how even those with busy minds can actually distract away from the active overload of thinking about too much. The best part is, the usual busy mind becomes more focused.

It’s the strangest but most loveliest feeling to feel at one with your body.

I love this article by Zen Habits, which tells us,

‘Beginners must understand that meditation is an ACTIVE process.

The art of focusing your attention to a single point is hard work, and you have to be purposefully engaged!’

So for those who like hard work and a challenge, meditation is definitely for you …

So whether you’re too busy or too skeptical, mediation is a must for you all.
